I created this blog about a year ago, not knowing what direction it would take. I want to focus on being under-employed, over-educated, and unable to find full-time employment.
My background includes an MLIS in Library Science; academic libraries 12 years, teaching info lit. in classroom and online. Also, archival processing, and Master’s Degree in the Humanities.
I have decided to cover my adventures, exploits, and frustration of job hunting.
I left a for-profit school 5 years ago due to low pay and have struggled ever since. I don’t know if it is the “stigma” of a for-profit school that concerns employers?
IDK; I equate it from working at a fast food restaurant and trying to get into a 5-star restaurant. I don’t know how this will turn out as a blog/dialog
My background is varied, but includes customer service, education, and management.
I’m a proud Mensa reject scoring in the 90th percentile, verifiable upon request.
I live in the Mid-West near many large cities. A glut of librarians thanks to colleges in the area. First, I was told experience was desired; now that I have it; it seems a negative due to salary-based experience and budget cuts.
Currently, I work part-time in an entry-level position at a Public Library. I hoped to move up in the ranks, but the last 3 resignations have not been filled due to attrition. I don’t want to sound bitter; just very frustrated that I can’t find anything. I do get interviews, but never make the cut.
